I picked this coin up a little
while ago and in looking at it closely I found that the
R appears to be over a G in the word REGINA on the reverse,
in the Spinks Coins of England that I have, they call it
"extremely rare"
See the close up picture
of the R under the obverse and reverse pictures and you
will see there is a pretty good nub poking out from the
right leg of the R, and a half circle around on the left
of the R, also there is a loop under the two legs of the
R. Under a glass it is pretty obvious
it is over a G.
Another interesting point
is the date, on the examples in Spinks it shows from left
to right the 1 and 6 in the angles under the monogram,
then the 9 and 2 again from left to right and right side
up in the lower two angles.
This coin, however, seems
to have the date continue around the rampant lion with
the 9 and 2 upside down.
If you have any information
about this coin, and even though it is in fairly low grade,
an approximate value would be helpful. Please email me
